A free, in-person networking conference on race, health inequalities, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

When: Friday 27 February 2026
Where: University of Derby, Kedleston Rd, Derby DE22 1GB
Join the fourth annual IPHIR Networking Conference, a full-day, in-person event bringing together professionals, community advocates and NGOs, academics, researchers, and postgraduate students (PGRs) committed to tackling health inequalities and advancing race equity across the East Midlands and beyond.
IPHIR connects colleagues across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire to share knowledge, spark collaboration, and spotlight innovative interdisciplinary work addressing the structural, social, and cultural factors shaping health outcomes.
This year’s conference will explore some of the most pressing and emerging issues in the field, including:
How race intersects with gender, age, disability, and socioeconomic status to shape inequalities in health outcomes
Racial bias embedded in clinical research and evidence generation
Barriers to accessing healthcare—and how community organisations are transforming trust, participation, and engagement
Lived experiences of inequality and discrimination among both patients and healthcare professionals
Innovative and ethical approaches to researching race, racism, and health equity
Challenges and opportunities for inclusion health communities facing wider intersectional disadvantage
How medical curriculum design and learning environments can advance equity and drive change
Through presentations, discussions, and networking sessions, participants will hear from experts, practitioners, and community partners whose work is shaping the future of health equity research and practice.
The call for papers is now open! The submission deadline is Monday 19 January 2026. Contributions from researchers, community organisations, clinicians, ECRs, and postgraduate researchers (PGRs) across a broad range of disciplines are welcomed.
The idea is that this conference will be followed up with a more funding-focused sandpit event shortly after.
